As part of the Association’s mission to promote the importance of arboriculture and all of the professionals who work in our sector, in June 2022 we published a leaflet called What is arboriculture?
As the name suggests, its purpose is simply to explain to the general public and non-arboriculturists what our profession is all about. It contains a brief introduction to arboriculture and describes the many varied career paths which are available, and it makes the case that if amenity trees are going to fulfil their potential in delivering social, environmental and economic benefits to our communities, then it is essential that arboriculture is recognised as an essential sector in its own right.
Since publication, the leaflet has been endorsed by a number of professional organisations including the International Society of Arboriculture, the European Arboricultural Council, the European Forum on Urban Forestry, the Association of Tree Officers, the London Tree Officers Association, the Municipal Tree Officers Association, Grown in Britain, Lantra, NZ Arb and the Institute of Latin American Arboriculture. We are now delighted to be able to announce that the leaflet will also feature the logos of the Forestry Commission and the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). This support for arboriculture, and endorsement of the messages contained within the leaflet, is very much appreciated and will help in our continued efforts to promote arboriculture and the tree care community.
If you are attending any events – especially for the general public or school and college career days – and would like some promotional materials, including What is arboriculture? leaflets, then please contact us at admin@trees.org.uk and we can make the necessary arrangements.
You can find a digital version of the leaflet, and many more resources, at: www.trees.org.uk/Help-and-Advice – select ‘Arboricultural Resources’ from the drop-down menu.
