Climbing Competitions

The Arboricultural Association presents several opportunities for climbers of all levels to compete throughout the year. They are run by a team of Arboricultural Association volunteers who want to try and help advance working practices such as climbing practice and safety. Climbing competitions are open to members and non-members and include:

 

Each college is encouraged bring two teams (3 climbers per team) however they can just enter one team in the relevant group. There are prizes for the winning teams as well as their representing college in each year one and two category.

Students with less than one year of practical climbing experience will all climb on either Prusik or Blakes hitch systems.

Students with more than one years practical climbing experience may climb on any AA approved climbing systems.

The Arboricultural Association Arborists’ Tree Challenge (3ATC) tests the mettle of climbers over 3 different skill categories. Novice, Expert and Premier climbers battle it out in one of the UK’s most popular climbing championships.

European and International Tree Climbing Championships

The top placed eligible competitors from the UK & Ireland Open Tree Climbing Competition (under ISA Rules) can represent the UK and Ireland at the European Tree Climbing Championship (ETCC) and on the world stage at the International Tree Climbing Championship (ITCC)
