Course Objectives:

This one-day exam will test candidate’s knowledge and skills in veteran tree management against the recognised criteria for the certification. It is advised that applicants read our VETcert webpage before booking. Candidates are advised to read and self-evaluate their knowledge and skills against the Veteran Tree Management Standards before applying.  

Course Content:

The Consulting exam is split into three 2-hour sessions:

  • Written exam – A series of short written questions on the topic of veteran tree management.
  • Outside exercise – This section is split into two sections. 1) Oral questions. Candidates are asked a number of questions relating to veteran trees and their management. 2) Veteran tree survey/inspection. Candidates are required to collect survey data for two veteran trees.
  • Veteran tree management report – Candidates are required to produce a management report for the two veteran trees surveyed. Candidates are provided with a report template which sets out the topic areas and level of detail required. Candidates are required to bring their own computer to enable the production of the report on the exam day.

The overall time of the exam, including breaks, is around 7 hours.

Successful candidates will be awarded VETcert Consulting level certificate and card. The suffix ‘Veteran tree specialist – Consulting level’ can be used by successful candidates.

Applicant holds a level 6 arboricultural qualification (or similar topic). AND Minimum 5 years relevant experience in total, of which 3 should be in an advisory role.

Applicant can prove knowledge and experience at an equivalent level to the qualification detailed above. PLUS Minimum 10 years relevant experience in total, of which 5 should be in an advisory role.

Terms of Cancellation or Amendments to details

  • We reserve the right to cancel courses and refund applicants if there is insufficient demand.
  • A FULL charge will be applied to any booking cancelled less than 10 working days before the event.
  • A £30 administration charge may be applied to changes made to bookings that have been received and acknowledged.
