Course Content:

Balloch Country Park (West Dunbartonshire Council) 10:00 – 12:30

Gillian Neil will guide around the park discussion points will include the historical tree collection and what remains, the previous tree trail and its rejuvenation, what should be done to maintain the collection (it is one of the National Tree Collections of Scotland) and International Conifer Conservation Programme plantings among other things.

Lunch 12:30 – 14:00 (Including travelling to Cashel)

Cashel Native Forest (Royal Scottish Forestry Society) 14:00 – 16:00

Simon Stuart will give a flavour of Cashel – a forest for a thousand years.

Discussions on the recent plantings (since 1996), establishment and memorial tree schemes as well as 200 year old oaks on the ancient woodland site, now part of the Queen’s Green Canopy Project for the Jubilee year.

Management of both of which are ongoing.

Module Pre-requisites:

Bring your own food, shops at both Balloch and Balmaha.
