Trustee Recruitment Pack

Introduction From Our Chair and Director

Adam Gretton, Founder and Chair of Trustees

I’m immensely proud of our journey since 2008. From our modest beginnings, we’ve grown into a charity with a deep commitment to our local landscape and community. This year, we’ve made significant strides, establishing our 15th tree nursery and planting our 13,000th tree, all through the power of volunteerism and community partnerships. Our work goes beyond growing and planting trees; it’s about nurturing connections and fostering a sense of purpose among our volunteers. I’m grateful for the dedication of everyone already involved and excited to see who else can share our passion and add value as part of our board of Trustees.

Richard Higgs, Director

Since joining More Trees in September this year, I’ve witnessed the tremendous impact this small charity has on a diverse range of people. Volunteers play a crucial role in the tree growing cycle, and our planting schemes significantly benefit local communities, as well as addressing climate change and improving biodiversity.   We’re on the brink of an exciting period of growth, and we need trustees with the right skills to steer us towards financial sustainability and increased impact. It’s an exciting time and we need a dedicated team to help us deliver as much as possible.

Who We Are and What We Do

More Trees, established in 2008, is a charity dedicated to environmental sustainability. Over the years, we have planted over 13,000 trees in and around Bath, and in 2022, we proudly became a registered charity (CIO). Our mission is to grow our own trees with local provenance, fostering a community of volunteers, and expanding our impact. We are at an exciting stage, accepting larger funding and looking to grow our team, and our trustees are key to this journey.  We are moving to our new site early next year which acts as a central hub for our operations, where trees are grown from seed collected around the local area and then distributed to a network of 15 community tree nurseries around Bath.  When ready these trees are planted in small planting schemes around the city and surrounding areas adding to the local treescape.

Our Trustees

Our trustees play a vital role in ensuring More Trees achieves its core vision. With a growing community and three employees including our new Director, we are entering an exciting stage of our journey. Trustees oversee the overall management and administration of the charity, ensuring a clear strategy aligned with our vision.  We are looking to appoint two new trustees to join the board to work with us.

What We Are Looking For

To complement the skills of existing board members, we are particularly interested in applications from those individuals who have expertise in any of the following areas:

  • Marketing and Communications
  • Fundraising
  • Woodland creation and tree nursery production
  • Local Government and the political landscape around Bath & North East Somerset

All trustees must be confident individuals with a strong interest in what we do. We need enthusiastic contributors who share our values, demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and enjoy working in small teams. Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential.

We can pay reasonable expenses to cover your costs of being a Trustee with us.
