About the role

  • The Tree Planting Officer will be responsible for initiating, planning, coordinating and implementing tree planting schemes, in accordance with Health & Safety and tree works legislation and with council policy.
  • The post holder will source funding opportunities for the programme and promote the active participation of the public, working closely with residents, community groups, charities, sponsors and third-party organisations.

About you

  • Qualification to Level 3 in arboriculture or above. Minimum two years working in the arboricutural industry.
  • A working knowledge and application of the principles and details of British Standard documents in relation to trees, BS:8545, BS:5837 & BS:3998.
  • Ability to undertake business support tasks i.e., maintaining up-to-date record keeping and database management, compiling evaluation reports, contributing to strategy and funding bid development, and undertaking financial administration tasks.
  • Experience of managing external contracts and formally managing contractors, ensuring service delivery on time, on budget and to specification.
  • Fully competent in the use of standard Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Work with Ezytreev database and utilise mobile working devices.
  • Experience in working within community-based settings and engaging with residents to support service design and delivery

About the role

The Council has an ambitious and exciting programme focussed on Trees and Woodlands Management and the post holder(s) will have the opportunity to support in driving a programme of improvement in accordance with the delivery of Barnet’s Tree Policy.

This will include a key role in supporting the Tree Officers, undertaking tree surveys to support service delivery and provide contractors with relevant works backed up with valid current data to allow cyclical tree maintenance programme to be implemented.

Educated with a good knowledge of tree species, fungi and their significance and tree biomechanics, the Assistant role will be in the front line in maintaining a healthy safe tree stock.

About you

  • You will have the knowledge and application of any other relevant statute and common law relating to trees and their management and a arboricultural/horticultural qualification to a minimum of level 2, or other countryside/ecology or related technical qualification.
  • You will be able to inspect trees and make accurate judgements based upon their health and condition and demonstrate an understanding of the role that trees and woodlands play in contributing to the green infrastructure and be innovative in your approach to enhancing those benefits.
  • You will be experienced of working in a customer-oriented environment at a technical level & dealing with the public on tree matters and experienced with Visual tree Assessment (VTA) assessment & methodology.
