Course Objectives:

  • Dr Dealga O’Callaghan  : Tree legislation and planning law update for arboricultural practitioners and managers.  An examination of recent court decisions relating to personal injury claims and property subsidence recovery claims.

 

  • Jeremy Barrell  :  A considered professional view of the current highway tree management conflicts occurring in Sheffield. The long term effects of mature tree canopy loss in urban areas  and what lessons can be learned for the future.

 

  • Russell Horsey  :  An assessment of  the relationships between Local Authority tree officers and the private tree care sector and what improvements can be made. Tree management strategies and policies with particular reference to Bristol’s ‘Greening Bus Routes Initiative.’

 

  • Richard Barnes  :  Urban tree management  principles and practice in the Newcastle city area. The progress of Newcastle’s current tree strategy review and the recently introduced iTree study, some early results for sharing.  

Course Content:

  • Tree legislation, planning law, review of recent court decisions relating to personal injury claims and subsidence recovery claims
  • ‘Hijack – The Misuse of Technical Arguments by Local Politicians’  :  A considered view of the current highway  tree management conflicts in Sheffield and what can be done
  • Relationships between LA tree officers and the private tree care sector, tree strategy and policies in Bristol including the ‘Greening Bus Routes Initiative’
  • Newcastle’s City Tree Strategy which is currently being reviewed, the new  iTree  study for Newcastle
