Course Objectives:

Thursday 09th April 2026 – 9am- 16.00

This year our spring event will be held at The Sainsburys Laboratory Cambridge University (SLCU) & Cambridge University Botanical gardens.

Agenda

Arrivals, registration at SLCU 8.30-8.55

Entrance to SLCU is through the front doors of the Lab from the main gate at 47 Bateman Street only (What3words ref ///upon.elite.really). If using Park and Ride services please ensure you allow time to reach the SLCU as doors will be closed at 9am

  • Welcome – Chairman 9.00
  • AGM
  • Break 9.45 – 9.55

Please note refreshments are not included or available at the SLCU, please ensure you bring a drink.

  • 10.00-12.00 Tony Kirkham - Trees a cut above the rest
  • Former head of Arboriculture Kew Gardens.
  • 12-12.30 Q&A/ Discussion
  • 12.30 End of morning session. Lunch

Lunch is not provided. Delegates can enter the Botanical gardens and use the on-site café, bring packed lunch or there are numerous places to purchase food nearby on Hills Road, Cambridge. The CBG Café does get busy and its is recommended that we stagger our attendance to avoid delays.

  • 13.45 Delegates gather on Cory Lawn CBG (17 on attached map)
  • 14.00 Tour begins
  • 15.30 End of tour – questions
  • Chairman thanks and closure
  • 15.45 Delegates free to explore gardens at leisure.

  • We reserve the right to cancel courses and refund applicants if there is insufficient demand.
  • A FULL charge will be applied to any booking cancelled less than 10 working days before the event.
  • A £30 administration charge may be applied to changes made to bookings that have been received and acknowledged.
