Dear member,
The Arboricultural Association has kindly facilitated this contact, enabling me to target a survey at the membership.
I, like you, am a member of our representing industry body. I am proud of the work being done to promote the profile and importance of trees and improve our industry. I am in my 5th year of a part-time BSc (Hons) Arboriculture and Urban Forestry course at Myerscough College. The end is in sight!
This year is dissertation year. I would greatly appreciate your support in conducting a study into some of the current limitations of the survey format as described by BS5837:2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction - Recommendations (BS5837:2012).
As you may know, a key element of the tree survey element is the categorisation of trees in terms of their perceived quality and value. The current focus is on assessing the tree as a single, stand alone, organism. There lacks, to my mind, a substantial consideration of a tree's value as an ecosystem element for other species which have significance in the planning system, specifically bats.
All documents and guidelines have scope for improvement and BS5837 is certainly no exception. I would like to be able to make a positive, if small, contribution to the next iteration of this important document and need your help to do so.
Please follow the link to complete the brief survey of 24 short questions (all tick box answers). You can choose to participate by simply following the link to the survey. The survey will stay 'live' for 4 weeks and should only take 8 minutes of your time. Please be assured that any personal data you provide will remain strictly confidential and will not be shared with any third party. Your participation could make a genuine, positive difference to the quality our industry practices.
I thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
