Alan Motion with his MBE
Scottish Branch member Alan Motion was made an MBE in the Queen’s New Year's Honours list. He was presented with his award by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace in May.
Alan is a well known and highly respected arboricultural consultant living and working in Scotland. He was awarded his MBE for services to forestry in recognition of his long-standing service to the Institute of Chartered Foresters and in raising professional standards. As well as sitting on Council, Alan has been actively involved on the ICF's Professional Examination system for over twenty years, acting as mentor, assessor, and board member. He served as Chair of the Examinations Board for six years before recently stepping down to concentrate on his consultancy business.
Alan has undoubtedly played an influential role in opening the door for arboriculturalists and developing the route to chartered status for this branch of the profession. It is part of his legacy that there are an increasing number of Chartered Arboriculturalists working throughout the UK today.
