Arboricultural Association #ARBatWork photo contest is back for another year and now open for entries!
This year’s contest sees a bigger prize giveaway than any competition before it. Thanks to some amazing sponsors, the top prize comes in at a value of up to £621! The winner will also feature in this Summer’s edition of the Arb Magazine!
#ARBatWork aims to get the best shots of arborists at work to help promote the industry and its professionals further afield.
How to enter
To enter the 2021 photo contest, you can either:
- Like and comment your photo on our Facebook post by following the link here
- Post your picture on Instagram with the hashtag #ARBatWork21 and tag us @arboricultural_association
- Email your entries to jack@trees.org.uk
We’ll be selecting 12 finalists and putting the vote to the public, who will decide which image will take this year’s crown. So, if you think you have what It takes to beat the competition and claim the prizes, enter your best photos NOW!

Here are the finalists from the 2020 #ARBatWork photo contest, including winner John Hancock
We hope this gives you some inspiration for your own entries!
The photo, taken in 2019 features Dominic Pearce and Nabil Ahmed undergoing aerial rescue training. The students were in their final year at Pershore College, studying towards their level 3 technical diploma in Arboriculture.
Both students graduated in the summer with Dominic gaining a distinction and Nabil a merit.
The photographer, John Hancock, a lecturer in Arboriculture and also a passionate photographer has been working in the industry for over 20 years. John states:
“I often bring the camera into college to capture student progress. Photography is a great medium for recording and promoting student progress.”
Tree Frog, a Tree Surgery business from Suffolk came in 2nd and 3rd for their fantastic entries gaining 17.9% of the vote for their shot from below, and 16.9% for their cool boat shot. An honourable mention to Tom Newbury who came in a close 4th with 14.8% of the vote.
Removal of a large pine, the photo was taken whilst chogging down the stem with some lovely sky’s.
The picture features work done the deadwood of a large willow tree using all means possible including the use of the client's boat!
