We set out to get the best shots of arborists at work to help promote the industry and its professionals to a wider audience. With a year’s free membership as the prize photos came flooding in via e-mail and social media, using the hashtag #ARBatwork.
It was an incredible response, more than doubling the number of entries from 2017, with over 300 submissions.
The variety of images we received demonstrated the passion of professionals working in the industry, as well as the technical complexities and dangerous nature of the job.
We whittled entries from around the world down to 13 finalists and put it to a vote on Facebook. The quality of the images which made it to the final was high and voting was hotly contested, so much so that there was only 2% between 1st and 2nd place.
This year’s winner was Ewart Schofield of ESA Treecare in Cowbridge, South Wales, who receives the prize of free AA Membership for a year. His shot capturing 2 arbs taking a break at the top of the tree won 19% of the votes.
Rich Ede’s spectacular image featuring a snow-capped mountain range would have been an equally deserving winner but fell just short with 17%.
Tom Hurley’s image, which finished in 3rd, was taken during a job in Wonford by ARB Approved Contractors Dartmoor Tree Surgeons.
The finalists from 2017 and 2018 were displayed on a giant video screen at this year’s ARB Show.
