Tom Christian, a leading expert on the conservation of trees, has been recognised with an award from the Arboricultural Association’s Scottish Branch. Tom, project officer of the National Tree Collections of Scotland and The iCONic Project, was presented with the 2014 Ken Martin Memorial Award in recognition of his outstanding services to arboriculture. The award, inaugurated in 1998 in memory of Arboricultural Association committee member Ken Martin, is a tree-rific accolade for Tom who is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of tree conservation across the globe. With his roots in Perthshire, Tom has travelled the world to save some of the planet’s most threatened trees from extinction in his role at The iCONic Project. Through the National Tree Collections of Scotland, Tom has led the project to bring together the very best of Scotland’s tree collections to protect and futureproof this part of Scotland’s cultural heritage, as well as raise public awareness.
