Solihull is well known for its wealth of green spaces, parks, grassed areas, woodlands and urban trees. The future of our green infrastructure in the urban environment is dependent on our ability to manage these areas and assets in the right way, with the right people and skills in place to ensure Solihull is even greener for future generations to come.

We are looking for a skilled Forestry Officer to join our team who has a proactive approach to work.

You will have:

  • Detailed experience and knowledge to successfully manage both rural and urban tree stock and woodlands.
  • A wide experience of planning and delivering forestry projects and programmes.
  • Technical specialist knowledge of arboriculture techniques and practices including planning law with a complete understanding of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and database systems.
  • Ability to problem solve and manage own workload.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills when liaising with members of the public
  • Work well within a team environment.

In return, we offer:

  • Flexible working, including flexi leave up to 24 days per year and agile working arrangements.
  • Generous annual leave entitlements with opportunity to buy up to 10 days’ additional leave per year.
  • A smarter way of working which balances your needs with service delivery.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24-hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service.
  • Family and carer friendly policies.
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Employee discounts and benefits including subsidised travel passes, Cycle 2 Work Scheme.

We recognise that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go. Our aim is to balance the needs of our employees with service delivery and, for this post, this is likely to combine working from home and from our offices at Moat Lane.

Due to the needs of the service, this is an essential car user post. You will be required to travel across the Solihull borough to carry out tree inspections. Applicants must be able to drive, have a driving licence and be a car owner, however for disabled applicants, reasonable adjustments will be made where required.

Closing date: 29 June 2025
