First up is Jeremy Barrell- As the Managing Director of Barrell Tree Consultancy www.barrelltreecare.co.uk, Jeremy is one of Britain’s leading planning and legal tree management practices. He has been involved in six of the 11 civil cases relating to harm arising from tree failures that have resulted in written judgements in the last two decades.
In this presentation, Jeremy will report a summary of the current state of the nation in respect of highway tree inspections, and offer his interpretation of what the standard of duty of care is likely to look like in the future - having made a Freedom of Information request to all the UK highway authorities asking for information on tree failure related fatalities and injuries, tree risk management strategies, tree inspection protocols, and training programmes. It is anticipated that, when published in 2019, this data could form the basis for designing a “clear, detailed guidance” on highway tree inspections.
Followed by Keith Sacre, previous Chairman of the Arb Association and Keith has over twenty year’s experience in local government as Arboriculture & Urban Forest Director. He also spent eleven years at Notcutt’s Nurseries with responsibility for tree sales to local authorities and other trade outlets. Currently Keith is Sales Director with Barcham Trees, the largest container tree nursery in Europe. Keith will be speaking on formative/structural pruning in the immediate years after planting and how this might impact on future risk scenarios.
There will be Branch update with members of the newly formed committee in attendance.
In the afternoon an extensive tour of the nursery is planned.
