The Arboricultural Association offers a grant to support research into a relevant arboricultural topic on an annual basis. Applications are invited for funding of up to £10,000 for projects based within the UK. The grant will be awarded at the discretion of the Arboricultural Association to support work considered appropriate.
Applicants should complete the enclosed application form using the guidance notes below.
The closing date for applications is 30th September of each year. All applications received in the previous 12 months will be considered at the October meeting of the Arboricultural Association Education and Training Committee. The successful applicant will awarded the grant in November.
Applicants Details
Give the name, address, telephone, fax and email of the main person(s) undertaking the research
If the application is from an organisation, the name of the individual(s) directly responsible for the research should be stated along with their position in the organisation and the name and address of the organisation
Give the names of any other individuals who will be significantly involved in the research
All applicants should provide details of their suitability to undertake the proposed work (qualifications, experience, supervisor etc. as appropriate).
Project Details
State the general project title (e.g. Application of Poulson’s Poulminator to Tree Surveys)
Provide a brief outline of the project. The objectives of the project should be stated clearly and concisely. E.g.
To determine the feasibility of using a Poulminator in the field.
To assess the reliability of Poulminator readings.
To compare the efficiency of Poulminator readings with alternative devices
Give an outline of the research plan, methodology and the main research methods to be used
Identify the expected outcomes and findings of the project. These should be stated clearly and concisely
Provide information explaining the relevance and significance of the project outcomes to the arboriculture industry. This could include the public benefits and use of the research outcomes within the industry
Provide details on how the project outcomes and findings will be published and disseminated to the arboriculture industry. A copy of any publication arising from a supported project should be sent to the Arboricultural Association. The Arboricultural Association will require the recipient of the grant to provide a paper on the outcomes of the research suitable for the Arboricultural Journal and may require the recipient to present a paper at the annual conference (for which expenses will be met)
Funding
Clearly state the amount of grant requested
Provide details of how the grant funding will be used. Include specific information on use of the funds (e.g. to pay for travel and subsistence, materials or items of equipment)
Provide an outline of other funding that is required for the project and the sources that they will be obtained from
Give details of any other grant applications that have been made to other organisations for this project.
Endorsement
The application should be endorsed by two suitable people who are familiar with the applicant and the proposal.
