The availability and cost of insurance for arboricultural (and forestry) contracting is causing some considerable concern in the industry. The Arboricultural Association is naturally concerned that insurance remains available and at an affordable price and we are making every effort to secure this.

The Joint Industry Insurance Group recognises that there is unlikely to be an easy answer to securing affordable insurance for the industry but are committed to finding one. The Group met in October to progress the issue

A second approach to Government was made on 19th January 2004 asking Government to reconsider the groups August 2003 requests and address additional issues like the unlawful trade advantages experienced by those trading without Employers' Liability Compulsory Insurance (ELCI).

The Association invited a representative of the Government's Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to the Insurance Open Forum section of its annual Conference in September 2004. Jim Neilson (DWP) is responsible for taking forward the ELCI Review recommendations. He provides the following report:
